Condom Run for Outreach Community Care Network
For the Community Care Network (OCCN), we were tasked with increasing awareness of the organization amount 2 populations separated: Baby boomers and Gen Zers. We were also tasked with increasing awareness of HIV and STI testing and treatment services offered by OCCN. We Invest in your Needs-Health Projects (WIN-HP)
The WIN Health Projects at Bethune Cookman University uses evidence-based frameworks and models to invest in the health needs of Floridians in-person and any one virtually via social media by translating educational health and science information concerning infectious and chronic diseases. The Long-term goal of WIN-HP is to design an entity that provides chronic and infectious disease education virtually and locally, promote preventive behavior and decrease risk of exposure with all populations especially priority populations who are affected the most by various health disparities. There are multiple components to this program including a college student training portion, a k-12 STEAM camp and community outreach and engagement.
Vaccine Outreach Project
In March of 2022, C.W. Consulting obtained a contract to increase the community-based workforce in Region B of North Central Florida which includes: Volusia, Flagler, and Saint John Counties. C.W. Consulting began working diligently contacting with key partners to begin the development of the Vaccine Outreach Project (VOP) that will fulfil the commitments of the contract. The newly established VOP had the goal of decreasing vaccine hesitancy by increasing COVID-19 education employing Community Health Workers (CHW) and Student Health Educators. The VOP model used positive and fun educational COVID-19 tools and activities that break down barriers with community members in order to engage them into conversations surrounding the vaccination. The model focuses on translation of COVID-19 scientific information into an appropriate literacy level to encourage informed decision making to decrease risk of exposure to COVID-19 and increase vaccinations. Results included over 8,000 people engaged and over 800 people obtained assess to vaccination or boosters.
Health Equity Champion
We were one of six Health Equity Champions for Volusia and Flagler County promoting both the Community Health Needs Assessment (which occurs every 3 years) and the Community Health Implementation Plan (CHIP) for both countries. We promoted the CHA at 14 different events and venues. We also designed and passed out 500 flyers printed and provided by our partners at Advent Health. Lastly, we organized a virtual focus group for qualitative data with Bethune Cookman University faculty members.
Pandemic Win Initiative
The goal of the Pandemic Win Initiative (PWI) at Bethune Cookman University is to increase the availability, acceptability, and use of COVID-19 public health information, education and services by vulnerable populations in the State of Florida that will result in a more informed population, increase vaccinations, increase COVID-19 testing, and a safer county. PWI uses growth mindset and fun educational COVID-19 tools and activities that break down barriers with community members in order to engage them and decrease vaccination hesitancy. We translate health and science COVID-19 information to an active and functional health literacy level and provide information on vaccination and testing sites, and promote overall healthy behaviors. To date we have engaged community members in the following 4 counties: Volusia, Flagler, Orange and St. Johns County. The 2022 outcomes efforts include engagement with over 10, 717 community members in-person through our engagement and education outreach events along with our vaccination pop-up clinics. We hosted three different type of vaccination pop-up clinics: community, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. These events have accounted for 801 people receiving access to vaccinations in 3 counties: Volusia, Flagler, and St Johns in 2022. This brings our total vaccination numbers for the last two years to 1,032.
